Introduction

The market for high end gaming peripherals has been booming for several years now. The trend started with mechanical keyboards which provide both tactile feedback and a variety of switch types to suit different preferences. Gamers quickly grew accustomed to expecting more from their peripherals. This trend soon spread to other peripherals including mice, webcams, headsets, and even standalone mics. Even high-end monitors that offer lower latency and higher refresh rates are now common among the PC elite. While all of these peripherals stand to improve a user’s experience, gamers often neglect the one item right under their nose: their chair. A high-end gaming chair is designed with long sitting sessions in mind and stands to improve both user’s comfort and posture.

Awareness of gaming chairs has been growing, but there’s still a far higher hesitation factor involved with ordering a gaming chair than there is with other high-end purchases. High costs play a part, but the bulky nature of the product also plays a significant role. For years, the size, shipping, and assembly requirements kept me from ordering a gaming chair. The anxiety of ordering a chair without first sitting on it was also a factor. Fortunately, the folks at E-Win made the decision for me by offering one of their premium Hero Series chairs for me to test out. After using extensively for the past month, I thought I’d share my thoughts.

What’s in the Box

The EWinRacing Hero Series gaming chair comes disassembled in a hefty box, but assembly only takes 10-20 minutes. Despite its size, I found it far easier to assemble than the IKEA chair I was previously using. A clearly worded color manual makes following along during the assembly process effortless. The adjustable armrests even come pre installed on the sides of the seat. The only step that could benefit from a second pair of hands is joining the backrest with the seat portion. E-Win chairs have sturdy steel frames which makes them heftier than generic office chairs. If you’re assembling the chair alone, it may help to place the seat piece on an elevated surface like a table before joining it with the backrest. E-Win has a convenient installation guide available on YouTube which you can reference.

Adjustable Comfort

Once assembled, it become clear that the E-Win Hero series chair has a multitude of adjustment options. The pre-installed armrests can be adjusted in height which helps since I prefer them to be low enough to slide under my desk. They can also be removed entirely for those who prefer not to use armrests. The backrest can adjusted back with the help of a lever on the right of the seat. A height adjustment lever is located on the bottom right of the seat as well. Most importantly, the included head support and lower back/lumbar support cushion can be adjusted or removed entirely. The E-Win seatback is very firm, but the two cushions balance this out perfectly. Their value is especially apparent when you lean the backseat back a bit. The firm build of the chair keeps your posture healthy while the cushions offer support for the two contact points along the back of your body. When trying to find the ideal setup for yourself, I suggest moving the cushions around a bit, it took me several adjustments to get it perfectly aligned for my height and body shape.

Memory Foam For Your Butt

The seat itself is perhaps the largest improvement over standard office chairs. My E-Win Hero Series chair came just in time for the launch of the latest World of Warcraft expansion, Battle For Azeroth and I have been sitting still playing for up to 12 hours a day. My old chair required me to make several uncomfortable adjustments to give my sore butt a rest. This often twisted my back into strange poses which I would hold for minutes at a time. Now I don’t even think about my butt while sitting. The thick memory foam seat feels like a cloud, especially after your body heat warms it up a bit.

Aesthetics

My biggest reservation when it came to gaming chairs was their aesthetic. Often streamers are seen with these chairs and they can look a bit glaring, especially in an otherwise normal bedroom or living room. If you share these concerns, know that E-Win also has an all-black chair option in their ‘Champion Series’ line. But from my experience, the blue Hero Series model I received looks much better than I thought it would. The most colorful part, the backrest, is always facing the desk and so the chair’s overall presence in a room is by no means overpowering.

Overall

Priced at $359 with free shipping, the E-Win Hero series may seem expensive, but the difference in quality over standard office chairs is substantial. For value per dollar, the chair is a bargain. The metal frame and dense foam seat look like they can last a lifetime. And just as with mechanical keyboards, once you’ve used a proper chair, you’ll be wondering why you didn’t make the switch sooner. But with all that said, there are caveats. As I said earlier, the E-Win chair is quite firm. Those who realize the value of good posture will appreciate this, but some may find the firmness to be uncomfortable. The ergonomics of the chair force a healthy posture. Sitting cross legged, for example, is difficult due to the curves on the seat. Again, this can largely be seen as a positive, but is worth mentioning for full disclosure. Those looking for a chair for gaming won’t be disappointed. Overall, the E-Win Hero Series receives top marks and comes highly recommended.
