Review: EWin Racing “Calling” Chair

Is it your Calling???

One of the biggest surprises at E3 this year was the explosion of gaming peripheral companies making an appearance, especially in the realm of the gaming chair. One might take for granted the necessity of a “gaming” chair, but for those spending hours in front of a computer or console, the difference is immediate and lasting. And, if like me, you’ve spent any time on YouTube or Twitch, you’ll notice a lot of the personalities you see will be utilizing some form of gaming chair.

EWin, one of the newer entrants in the gaming peripheral space was gracious enough to send us one of their “Calling” series chairs for evaluation and thus far we are very impressed.

Putting this thing together was a relatively simple, although mildly time-consuming. The complete build took around 25-30 minutes, with the majority of time spent turning hex bolts in to place. Anyone that’s had any experience with furniture builds will be relatively comfortable with the process, especially since clear instructions were given in the form of a guide booklet.

At first, the large pile of components can be intimidating, but your confidence will grow once you start combining pieces. A lovely pair of cloth gloves are provided to keep fingerprints from adhering to the synthetic leather surface while also offering light digit protection during some of the more rigorous parts of the assembly process.

At first, it can feel a little weird sitting in a racing-style chair. The form-hugging design could be more likened to that of a sports car than your standard office environment, but once you get used to it, your body will thank you — especially for those sitting at their desks for extended sessions.

The removable cushions that accompany the Calling racing chair provide a surprising amount of support. The larger of the two sits at the base of the chair for lumbar support. Both it, and the smaller neck support pillow are held in place by elastic straps. Although optional, I highly recommend using these. The only complaint I had with the cushions is that the neck support pillow does not retain its position using the included straps.

The “Calling” is one of EWin’s mid-range offerings with adjustable height, armrests and very steep angle of recline. The standout feature of the Calling chair is how well it is made. The synthetic leather provides a soft surface yet enough support for longer sessions. All of the individual components are held together with sturdy straps and bolts.

This is a very well made gaming chair and one you should definitely consider when looking to upgrade your current set up.

Opening the box up everything is nicely packaged and protected.

Getting everything out of the box you’ll see that the chair comes disassembled, which is pretty much standard when it comes to these chairs. EwinRacing provides all of the parts and everything you need to fully assemble the chair.

EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair

EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair Overview
The Champion Series Gaming Chair takes about 15-20 minutes to fully put together. I found installation to be pretty easy since I had previously put a chair like this together. As you can see we received the black version of the chair with blue accents. It also comes in orange, pink, purple, green, and red accent colors. Of course this chair is fashioned after a real racing chair, not only that it is designed that way. The chair is made of a durable steel frame that is wrapped in a high density memory foam.

EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair

The entire chair as well as the two pillows are wrapped in what looks like leather, but it is polyurethane faux leather. This is very common in most gaming chairs in this price range. As for the included pillows there is a small pillow for your head and a larger one to give you lumbar support. Both of these pillows are adjustable and can be fully removed if you like.

EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair
Taking a look at the chair from the side you can see how the frame is designed to mold around your body. This means that when you are sitting in the chair it will be very comfortable, even after long hours of gaming. The chair offers tilt and height controls. You can tilt the chair back to 155 degrees which is great for relaxing and watching movies. The controls for both the tilt and height adjustment are located on the right side of the chair and are pretty easy to use.

EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair

The armrests on this chair are what as known as 4D adjustable armrests. You can rotate them or set their angle, move them further apart or closer together, move them forward or backwards, and adjust their height. This gives you the ultimate customization when it comes to getting the perfect setting for your gaming / sitting style. There are controls on each armrest which makes it easy to adjust them.

Usage & Final Thoughts
I have been using the Champion Series Gaming Chair for about 3 weeks now and I have to say I do like it. I spend anywhere from 4-8 hours a day sitting down at my computer, so I have definitely broken the chair in over the past few weeks. As I mentioned earlier in this review this is our second gaming chair. The first one was the Tesoro Zone Balance. Since both of these have very close price points ($229 vs $279) we figured it would be a good idea to compare them and see which features of each chair we like the best.
EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair

The first thing I can say about the EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair is that it molds around your body much better than the Tesoro chair. When I sit in the chair I feel I sink into it more. It seems like EwinRacing has used better quality foam, which makes for a more comfortable feel. I definitely prefer sitting in this chair over the Tesoro chair.

The adjustments on the chairs are pretty much the same otherwise, although you do get more customization with the armrests with the EwinRacing chair. But at the same time the armrests on the EwinRacing chair seem a little more flimsy and move around quite a bit. The Tesoro chair has a larger head pillow, which I really do like. The head pillow on the EWinRacing chair is just too small and really is pointless in my opinion.

Again with both chairs I do not like the part of the chair which connects to two pieces. This is an aesthetic thing, but its covered with plastic and just not look that good.

If you are looking at upgrading your current chair situation or outfitting a new office with chairs the EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair is a great choice and one that I can totally recommend. If you are doing any type of long-term sitting at your computer one of these chairs will definitely help your situation and once you use a chair like this you won’t go back.

This chair currently sells for $279 and I can definitely agree with that price. Overall ThinkComputers gives the EwinRacing Champion Series Gaming Chair a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!

Pros:
– Extremely comfortable
– Easily adjustable
– Offered in many different colors
– Does not take that long to put together
– Lumbar support

Cons:
– Head pillow is sort of useless
– Armrests are a little flimsy

Best gaming chair of 2018

Don’t overlook your chair as part of a gaming setup. Here we explain what to look for in a gaming chair and review the best gaming chair you can buy on the market.

You’ve probably spent time and money buying the right gaming keyboard and gaming mouse for your PC, and maybe even have other accessories that you hope will give you the edge (not to mention the gaming PC itself). Few people put much thought into their chair, though.

Gaming chairs are becoming more and more popular, and we’ve rounded up a small selection of the latest models.

Gaming chair buying guide

In most respects, gaming chairs are no different to a regular desk swivel chair. They have height adjustment, castors for smooth movement across the floor and arm rests.

However, as with a lot of gaming hardware, gaming chairs are more stylish than your standard office chair and typically take inspiration from the bucket seats in racing cars.

What is and isn’t stylish is down to your personal taste, but what should you look for when buying a gaming chair?

Ergonomics

Basic chairs tend to have only height adjustment, but it’s well worth going for a chair that has an reclining back and adjustable arm rests, too.

Ergonomics are really important, so you need a chair that supports your spine properly and offers enough adjustment to fit your body, rather than forcing it into a bad posture.

Almost all chairs are ‘one size fits all’ so it’s crucial to make sure the seat height adjustment range will suit you. If possible – and it probably isn’t – try to find a shop where you can actually sit in a chair before you buy.

Whether or not a chair is comfortable for you will depend on how well you fit in the chair.

We’ve tested the E-Win chair here with tall and short people, and both large and slim builds, but we can’t guarantee that you will find it comfy.

You won’t necessarily get a more ergonomic chair if you spend more, so good ergonomics don’t have to be expensive.

Longevity

What you will get if you spend more is better quality materials and build. Although the price of some chairs may make you wince, a good-quality chair should last years, if not a decade or more.

At the entry level, cheap foam may feel ok to start with (some manufacturers use recycled foam scraps), but might lose its structure and therefore its support before long, while high-quality foam will retain its shape and also support heavier users. A chair’s specifications should always state the maximum weight they can handle.

Talking of materials, the most common is PU leather, also known as faux leather or vegan leather. Essentially, it’s plastic with a leather-like texture. It’s not a bad choice: it’s reasonably hard wearing, easy to clean and not expensive. Real leather costs a lot, but should last considerably longer.

Some chairs use a suede-like material (or even real suede leather). This isn’t as easy to clean, but has a softer feel which some people will prefer.

Warranty

Since gaming chairs have a gas strut for height adjustment, plus other moving parts, it’s feasible that something might fail. Obviously a longer warranty is better, but always check what the warranty covers.

Ewin Flash XL

Ewin Flash XL

  • RRP: $428.99

At £322, the Ewin Flash XL gaming chair is one of the most expensive chairs in our roundup – but for good reason. It’s available in either black and blue or black and red, and comes with two matching ergonomic pillows for lumbar and neck support.

We usually discard of lumbar pillows fairly quickly, but the included pillow is firm enough to provide support without being too bulky.

Beneath the PU leather cover, you’ll find high-density moulded cold foam that is softer than what’s on offer with cheaper chairs. As you sit down, you feel slight adjustments in the large seating area as the foam moulds to your body. It’s comfortable, and more noticeable than in other chairs that feature the same material.

It also features 4D armrests, allowing you to adjust just about every aspect of the armrests.

That’s backed up by a durable steel frame and large, five-star base that means anyone up to 150kg can comfortably sit in the chair with no worry.

And that’s who this chair is aimed at; those of us that are a little larger and don’t find standard gaming chairs comfortable. It has a wider and longer seat than many gaming chairs, along with a wide back rest that doesn’t dig into your sides.

It also allows for reclining between 85- and 155 degrees. Oh, and you can get a 15 percent discount by using our exclusive code TA on the Ewin Racing website.

The Review

I did a full unboxing video for this chair so to give you a better idea of it and the contents of the box, so watch the video here and read on:

The E-Win Racing Champion series chair ships in a large and heavy box. Fedex said it weighed in at just over 58lbs, the box is brown with red and the E-Win branding on it. Inside you’ll find all of the parts of the chair packaged very well and individually wrapped for protection and in layers as well.

ewinblack1

ewinblack2 ewinblack3

I love the color black so this chair is perfect for me, black just matches everything and looks really good. This chair though does have a distinctive pattern to it on the seat back and seat, it’s a diamond pattern and if you look closely there are holes in it for breathability.  The chair is made from PU Leather which is leather made from actual hide but it’s finished with a polyurethane coating and texture. The chair is also made from real top grain leather and you can see and feel the difference and transitions in the chair. The back and sides of the chair are the PU leather but the main parts where you lean and sit are the real leather making it much more comfortable. All of the diamond pattern and border is the leather essentially, it’s very soft and supple. Just so you know it’s not a complaint about the PU leather at all, some people actually prefer it as it’s more durable and easier to clean, but I’m a bit old I guess you could say and I love the look and feel of leather.

Champion Black Gaming ChairChampion Black Gaming Chair

The chair has two pillow for extra comfort, one at the head and one at the bottom for your lower back or lumbar area. The pillows are soft and comfortable but yet firm as well. The pillows are also made of a combination and leather and PU leather, you can see the differences in the material very easily. Both of the pillows are attached to the chair with elastic straps and they can be adjusted easily or just removed altogether if you want.

ewinblack6  ewinblack5

The back of the chair has the E-Win logo there at the top and you can see the elastic straps and plastic clips so you can remove them if you want. The Hero series chair I reviewed a bit ago has both pillows attached on one set of straps but this chair has separate straps for both pillows which I like much better than the single strap system. On the right and left of the chair back at the bottom you’ll see two metal bolts, this is where the chair back attached to the seat.

ewinblack8

ewinblack9 ewinblack10

The seat has armrests on each side of it of course and sides that flare up from the main seat. The leather and diamond pattern continues to the seat so you’re leaning on the leather with your back and also sitting on it. The seat is also a combination of the PU and leather, the seat itself is leather while the flares on the sides are the PU material.

ewinblack11 ewinblack12

The armrests are covered in the same PU material as the outside of the chair but they’re very adjustable. There is also padding under the covering but it’s fairly stiff with an almost solid feel really. There are two button on the inside edge of the arm rest. The front button is lock/unlock to slide the armrest forward and back. The button on the inside center is so you can slide the armrest right and left. The whole armrest can also rotate clockwise and counterclockwise but there is no button for that, it just turns but locks into place. On the outside of the armrest is a lever or switch you pull up on to raise and lower the whole armrest, so as you can see it’s very adjustable, which is something I really like about this chair.

ewinblack13 ewinblack14

On the right side at the bottom edge of the outside of the seat is the lever to unlock the tilt function so the seat back can tilt backwards and forwards. The seat back can be tilted from 85-155 degrees which is almost flat like lying down. If you do that you’ll want to make sure the seat is locked or else.

ewinblack15

Inside of the larger box was a smaller box that holds all of the accessories and parts to put the chair together. The first thing you should notice is the lack of screws in the package, without screws how do you put the chair together? Well E-Win has made assembly easy for you, the screws are already in the chair in their proper places and you take them out as you’re assembling it and then put them right back in so there’s no guesswork as to what screw goes where, I like this system, it makes things much easier and for a faster assembly. The instructions are included but they’re basic, just 15 steps really and you’re done. Also included is a pair of white gloves to keep your chair looking clean while assembling it. They do provide a couple extra screws for you just in case and two hex wrenches that are used for assembly. There are five casters or wheels for the chair included and they have a racing or sporty look to them, but they’re well made and seem very sturdy and move or spin freely.

ewinblack16 ewinblack17

ewinblack18 ewinblack19

On of the things I like about these chairs is they have a sturdy steel frame making it very stable and on the bottom of the seat you can see a part of the frame. To assemble the chair you attach the back to the seat then attach the base to the bottom of the seat. The base has the lever that sticks out for lifting the chair up and down and for locking and unlocking the tilt of the seat back. The bottom is also where you’ll find the tension knob for leaning back in the chair.

ewinblack20 ewinblack21

ewinblack24

To finish assembly you attach the wheels to the five star base and then insert piston and cover and then set the seat on the piston and you’re done. There are some other small details like plastic covers but those are easy, then again the whole chair is easy to assemble.

ewinblack22 ewinblack23

So now I have two E-Win Racing gaming chairs, the Hero Series and the Champion series, so here’s both of them together for comparison. There are some differences in design and I have to say both are comfortable but I really like the leather better of the Champion chair, and I like the more adjustable armrests as well. The leather of the Champion chair is just softer and much more comfortable in my opinion. I should mention that I’ve had the Hero series chair for not quite a year now and it’s been used everyday for several hours per day and it still looks like new, so it’s built to last I would think.

ewinblack25

So here’s the chair assembled and at my desk, and yes I know my workspace area is a mess. I’ve been using the chair everyday as my main chair for working, gaming, watching videos and just doing whatever at my computer. I normally get up about 4:30am when kids are in school and go to bed about 11pm and I spend of lot of that time during the day in a chair and I have to say it’s very comfortable to sit in for long periods of time, I’ve certainly tested it out. In the evenings I like to lean back and relax with my feet up on my desk and watch a movie or TV show and it’s nice to be able to do that in this chair. Originally I didn’t really care for the pillows but I’ve grown to like them, especially the head pillow for watching movies. I’ve learned to like the lumbar pillow as well, I’ve never really used one before but I find it comfortable.

ewinblack26

My son wanted to test the chair as he’s been using the other one and he likes this one better as well, but too bad I’m keeping it for myself!

ewinblack27 ewinblack28

Conclusion

The E-Win Racing Champion series chair is the best chair I’ve owed so far, and I’ve gone through a lot of them over the years.

The chair is made from PU leather and real top grain leather and I very much like the looks and feel of it, there’s nothing like real leather for sure. The leather is strategically placed in the chair where most of your body meets the chair. The leather is soft and supple and just very comfortable to sit on for long periods of time. The leather has very tiny holes in it to allow it and you to breathe making you more comfortable for long gaming sessions.

The chair is very easy to assemble, it takes less than 30 minutes really, and that’s if you really take your time. I like the fact that the screws are already in the chair for you so it takes the guesswork out of figuring out what screw goes where.

The Champion series chair has plenty of adjustments to make you comfortable know matter how you want to sit or what you’re doing while you’re sitting. One of the main differences between the Hero series and Champion series chairs is the adjustable armrests which do much more than just move up and down, you can position them exactly how you want them and they’ll lock that way. The small pillows are a nice addition for extra added comfort, I really do like them, but I have to say that at first I didn’t, but now I do.

I sit in a chair for many, many hours per day and for me a solid comfortable chair is a must and the E-Win Racing Champion series black chair is very comfortable. The chair is not only comfortable but it’s well made and it looks good too. Some people like the flashy colors of chairs but I much prefer just a solid black, and this chair looks good that’s no doubt about it.

If you’re in the market for a new gaming chair then I can easily recommend the E-Win Racing Champion series to you.
